Snapchat is an image messaging and multimedia mobile application for Android and iOS created by Evan Spiegel. Who is in a relationship with Super model Miranda Kerr. I really love her Looks!
But what kind of application is SnapChat? If you’re used to WhatsApp or any other way of Messaging, SnapChat will look very bloated. The UI isn’t clean and bright and can be very confusing. If you want to use SnapChat you really need to put this aside and get used to share a grainy, cheesy version of a photo instead of a nice looking one on Instagram!
Snapchat founded in September 2011. Snapchatters watch over 10 billion videos per day and over 100 million people use Snapchat every day to Snap with family, watch Stories from friends, see events from around the world, and explore content from top publishers. That are some remarkable figures! Snapchat is a very popular way of communicating next to WhatsApp, under the “Millennials” also known as Generation Y or the Next Generation. We see that other generations are also starting to notice Snapchat.
Their Mission Statement is as follow:
Snapchat lets you easily talk with friends, view Live Stories from around the world, and explore news in Discover. Life’s more fun when you live in the moment!
On any given day, Snapchat reaches 41% of all 18 to 34 year-olds in the United States*.

What are Snaps?
A direct message from one account to one (or several) other accounts. These messages disappear immediately after viewing. They can contain photos, videos, or images uploaded from your phone.
By just opening the App and taking a photo or Selfie it’s very easy to add other things to your photo, such as:
- Smileys, all kind of stickers
- Text
- Or create an own pen where you can write or draw with
- By swiping to the left or right; different layers will be shown, with options as time or degrees etc
If you want to go for something extra and also most frequency used by the SnapChat users, go with the animations. Animations can be overlaid on top of your selfie — simply press and hold your face until the Lens option appears below in your screen. You can then swipe left to browse through the options and decide to create a funny selfie or video. Add filters, the time, the weather, or your current speed to a Snap! Swipe left or right on the preview screen to browse your options.
See a Funny Video of me, where I have added a different layer, I call it the: Marilyn Monroe layer.
Once the Snap is ready you can, choose the timeframe of the photo, that varies from 1 – 10 seconds and then:
- Safe it or;
- Send it to someone particular (a SnapChat friend) or:
- Add it to your Story
So what is meant with “My Story”
In My Story you can share all your Snaps/videos, that you have created and this will be visible for 24 hours, all your friends can Review your Snaps/Videos as many times they want. You can create multiple photos/videos shown in succession to create a longer story. If you click on your Snaps that you have shared in My Story and scroll up, you can see who of your friends have seen your Snaps/videos.
Video Advertising for business
Snapchat offers also Snap Ads for business, it always begin with an up to 10-second vertical, full screen video ad that appears in the context of other Snaps. You can also give Snapchatters the choice to swipe up and see more, just like they do elsewhere on Snapchat. Swiping up reveals extended content like a long form video, article, app install ad, or mobile website. The swipe-up rate for Snap Ads is 5x higher than the average click-through rate on comparable platforms. A new way of advertising and something corporate businesses should tap into.
I could not help myself, here is another funny Video, with a Dog layer, Stickers and some own writing..
I have to admit Snapchat is a very funny way of communicating and with all the new features a new way of communicating where you get easily addicted to:) With thanks to @Jpschadde for the best first SnapChat experience. You might like his Blog as well, please note it’s written in Dutch!
Ps. SnapChat announched today that they will introduce a new Feature called “MEMORIES”. Basically SnapChat is trying to be your camera app. From now on you can also save your Pics and Videos in SnapChat and Review it again whenever you want!
